Tonnellerie des Clos

An Ode to Burgundy

Tonnellerie des Clos, a new brand from Tonnellerie Saury, crafts its barrels in Burgundy — a true ode to the region, its vineyards, its “clos”, and its wines.

From the Côtes de Beaune to the Côtes de Nuits, the entire region of Burgundy is devoted to vines and wine. The “Clos” of Burgundy are, above all, the expression of a terroir — of soil, grape varieties (Pinot Noir and Sauvignon), and the craftsmanship of its winemakers.

A barrel 100% made in Burgundy

Defined by the stone walls that surround them, each “clos” — like the wines they produce — is unique. Tonnellerie des Clos offers barrels with a strong Burgundian identity, crafted from staves sourced in forests located in Burgundy. These forests yield slow-growing, tall-trunk oak trees with very fine grain — highly qualitative wood. The staves are naturally seasoned outdoors for 20 to 24 months, allowing a gentle leaching of tannins under Burgundy’s continental climate. Morning mists, annual rainfall, and warm summers give the wood optimal maturity. At Tonnellerie des Clos, our philosophy is to support the most delicate wines through their aging, by listening closely to the needs of winemakers.

Honoring the fruit and the terroir

The barrels are crafted in the traditional way in our Burgundian workshops, by experienced coopers who master every gesture required in the making of a fine barrel. Respecting the identity of each wine, while enhancing its intrinsic qualities through unique expertise, is our top priority. We offer tailor-made solutions, guiding winemakers in the choice of barrels, volumes, and toasting levels best suited to their needs. Tonnellerie des Clos barrels bring volume, silky textures, and refined structure. Each wine is thus able to fully express the richness of its geological identity, highlighting the distinctive characteristics of its village of origin and its unique minerality. This respect for oak and traditional methods reflects a deep commitment to the art of aging, in order to elevate fine wines and reveal their full depth and complexity.
