It was in 1873 that Fran\u00e7ois Cabri\u00e9, Jean Saury\u2019s father-in-law, created the very first family cooperage, la Tonnellerie Cabri\u00e9, in Aude, at Rieux Minervois.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Marius, the son of Jean Saury and Marie-Antoinette Cabri\u00e9, was born in Rieux-Minervois on 16 October 1892, a few years after the phylloxera crisis that had devastated two thirds of Aude\u2019s vineyards between 1878 and 1886.<\/p>\n

Marius Saury learned his barrel making skills <\/strong>alongside his grandfather Fran\u00e7ois Cabri\u00e9, and his maternal uncles, Antonin et Joseph-Louis.<\/p>\n

During this period the French vineyards were progressively reviving thanks to the use of phylloxera-resistant American rootstock. Wine production went up, and with it the need for oak barrels. It was a period of great prosperity which culminated finally in overproduction and the collapse of wine prices in this region known as the Midi. In 1900, the price per hectolitre plummeted to a mere 7 francs compared to 19 francs the previous year.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn 1952, Marcel Saury, son of Marius, left Rieux-Minervois and set up at Brive-la-Gaillarde to be closer to the vineyards of Bordeaux and the chestnut forests of the Limousin, as chestnut was the principal species of wood employed in the Tonnellerie Saury workshops at that time.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In 1983 Tonnellerie Saury<\/strong> established its production site at Saint-Pantal\u00e9on-de-Larche where it grew steadily until 1994. In 2009 it was acquired by Charlois<\/a>,enabling it to benefit from a privileged supply of 100% integrated French oak and the stavemaking skills of the Charlois family, with entirely autonomous transformation of the raw timber.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
